Bud Selig F's Up Again

So this year's All-Star game was not called a tie by Bud but he still found a way to get too involved and screw things up.

On Monday, Brian Fuentes said he was told he would pitch the sixth inning of the All-Star game. On Tuesday, he was told he would not, which Fuentes blamed on the commissioner's office.

"That bumped me from my inning," Fuentes said. "It's kind of crazy they would have their hand in making up the lineup." On Tuesday, two hours before game time, Fuentes said AL pitching coach Jim Hickey told him that there had been a "misunderstanding" and that AL Manager Joe Maddon had not been aware that the commissioner's office wanted the starting pitchers to work two innings.

That left one fewer inning for the relievers and that left Fuentes out.

"That soured me a little bit," Fuentes said.

"To think that someone in MLB would dictate who pitches when and where, that is not the way the game is supposed to be played."

Next thing you know, Bud is going to pick the players for the game. It is far past time that he steps asid.

Bud Reacts to the Manny Voting

Only Bud Selig could find a way to come up with an answer as bad as this:

"I'm going to think about that," Selig said. "He doesn't come back till July 3. Normally, I'm sensitive to the wishes of the fans. If the fans choose someone, I'd like to honor that. But we've been testing players for a long time, and it bothers me that someone would [cheat] at this stage in the game. I've got some time to think about this one."
He manages to discount the fans by saying I'd like to honor the fans but.... He also shows how clueless he is by saying "it bothers me that someone would cheat at this stage in the game. " Does Selig really believe that the game is clean now and that Manny was just an anomaly? Removing Manny from the All-Star Game would have to be a punishment that was negotiated with the MLBPA. So no matter how long Bud thinks this one over, if Manny is voted in he is going to play. (Unless his grandmother dies again.)

Bug Selig's New Problem

There is trouble brewing for Bud Selig as the Midsummer Classic draws nearer. Now there's a movement to vote Manny Ramirez as the starting left fielder for the NL All-Star team. The goal according to the website Vote for Manny is:

To highlight the silliness that are the MLB rules towards PED users as well as their "head in the sand" approach to this situation. Rather than confront it head-on, MLB is choosing to do nothing and simply hope there are three higher vote getters in the NL OF.

Think it won't happen? Manny is currently 4th in voting and this push could put him over the top. What is Bud going to do now?

What Bud Selig Could Have Told Graduates

Baseball Commissioner Bug Selig was the commencement speaker for the University of Wisconsin's graduation today. Here is some of what he told the graduates:

"In baseball, as in life ... hope and faith are critical to success," Selig told graduates at the first of four ceremonies. "Take advantage of these difficult times because if you have hope and faith, if you are smart and tenacious and dedicated and willing to sacrifice, you can make a difference and make this a better world. And don't be afraid of failure."

If he were being honest with them he might have said, "if you strong-arm your way into the position you want, you too could grow an industry by enabaling cheaters."

This Bud's For You

Bud Selig f'd up the World Series by letting them play last night, and now he has postponed tonight's game and not told them what they are doing with the travel day. Fans had to sit in miserable conditions because Selig has no respect for the game, all he cares about is TV $. Here's more from philly.com:

The game never should have been permitted to start, and everybody with access to weather radar - read, everybody - knew that. This big green blob was coming north and it wasn't stopping. That commissioner Bud Selig said that three different weather services gave him optimistic reports has made him and his sport look silly.

There are 45,000 wet, exhausted, frustrated people who sat outside in this mess and knew that it was a farce. They came in the hope of glory. What they got was abused. This should not have started - should not.

Screw the Kids, We Want Money

Bud Selig has shown that he doesn't really care about protecting baseball for future generations, he wants the payday now. It used to be that kids could watch some playoff games but not anymore; game times are way past when most kids are up, especially on the East Coast. Mr. Selig showed his dislike for earlier start times in an interview yesterday:

Selig said playing day games on weekends is not an alternative.

"We had some afternoon games during the league championship and division series. The ratings were brutal," he said. "The ratings get better and better as the night goes on."

Even if MLB wanted to schedule day games, TV slots would be difficult if not impossible to find during football season.

"The networks have commitments, and they just can't do it," he said. "There's no sense in being anything but blunt about it."

Bud Selig Gets An Extension

After presiding over the Steroid Era, baseball owners voted to give Bud Selig more time as commissioner of baseball. The new extension will keep him in charge of MLB through 2012. I guess we have 4 more years of poor leadership to look forward to.

MLB Gets Grilled On The Hill

Bud Selig and Donald Fehr are in the middle of testimony in front of the House Oversight Committee. Their testimony has been filled with squirmy answers as to why they were not responsible for the Steroid Era in baseball. Bud Selig thinks there needs to be more testing and year-round testing for PED's. Donald Fehr does not commit to off season testing and says it needs further investigation. Fehr sums up his attitude towards drug testing when he is asked if players have a misunderstanding of post-season testing when he said that he hopes they are not under a misunderstanding because they might use steroids and fail a test. He is more concerned that a player might get caught by the system than ridding the sport of steroids. Selig continues to play the tough guy role when the Steroid Era took place under his watch. Many people will say that Congress should not get involved in baseball but without some outside action Fehr and Selig will continue to ignore the problem.
