Nomar talks about 'The List'

John Chandler of NESN.com has a video interview with Nomar and his thoughts on 'The List'.

WEEI.com posted some of his comments:

“It’s so hard to even understand, I mean what is that list? This has become an
absolute joke, I think it’s just a crock, I don’t even believe the list, it’s kind of ridiculous when you have a list like that and it doesn’t go through the proper channels. What is the truth about something like that? That’s just unfair.

“I know David and I know the guy is just so solid as an individual and cares about the game and what he does, I just hope he’s doing alright.”

“There’s a lot of guys having to deal with accusations and that’s unfortunate. I don’t know the truth. The only thing for me is that I don’t agree with people taking them at all by any means.”

“You have guys who are taking regular supplements at GNC and getting 50-game suspensions. That’s unfortunate. There’s a big difference between being a cheater and being irresponsible, they seem to put the same label on both.”

“There are flaws but it’s getting better. It’s not perfect but I think it’s headed in the
right direction for sure. I think we all as individuals and fans of the game have to be aware of that, it’s not going to be perfect and we shouldn’t cast somebody a certain way until we hear the whole story.”

“There’s process that’s supposed to go on, if there’s a suspension a guy can appeal it and there’s a big process to see what happened, did any of those guys [listed] even
have that chance? I guarantee they didn’t. It was a list that was supposed to be
anonymous and now they’re saying it’s not. They didn’t have a process.”

“There was supposed to be just a number. I knew guys who didn’t take the test just to be positive because they wanted testing. Are those guys on the list? I don’t know. There are literally guys who said, ‘I’m not taking it, go ahead and put me on there because I want the number to be above [five percent], if those guys are on the list?’ How about that? People don’t talk about that.”

“I think there’s a bigger issue about a grand jury and stuff being leaked like that, I think we have a bigger problem there than steroids in baseball, that’s a lot bigger than stuff that’s supposed to be sealed and confidential. It’s not anymore. That hurts in all walks of life.”

“Then you’re going to have 100 guys trying to tell a story, but is this [list] even
legit? I don’t know, that’s what you question. It’s one of those things where if
it was in court it would probably be tossed out and not allowed.”

Nomar Back at Fenway

Nomar Garciaparra will be back at Fenway Park tonight as a member of the Oakland A's. He hasn't played at Fenway in almost 5 years.

Sox fans should give Nomar a warm welcome. He's never been the same player since leaving Boston, and has been plagued by injuries.

Garciaparra told the Boston Globe:

“I look forward to it, just because of the fans and to see some old friends and everything. I always loved the fans, and that city will always have a special place in my heart"

Jerry Remy on Manny

Jerry Remy put in his 2 cents on Manny in a blog post on Sawxheads, here are a few highlights:

Over the years their have been several episodes where he acted, or said things, that were hard to explain. So we learned to explain it away as "Manny being Manny." The lasts few weeks however can only be described as "Manny being maniacal." As the saying goes, it always takes two to tango. However, a large share of the negative atmosphere that has been swirling around the team lately falls on Manny’s shoulders....The Red Sox will now be able to clear the air and move on, Terry Francona will sleep much better I am sure, and Jason Bay should be welcomed with open arms. I honestly wish Manny the best in the future and I hope he finds the peace he says he is looking for.

I totally agree with Jerry on the Manny situation. It is hard to know exactly what went on because we don't get to talk with the players or management but I have not seen anyone affiliated with the Sox in any way (players, executives, print media) take Manny's side in any of this. I think the situation was unfortunate for Manny since he has given Sox fans so much over the years. I also think it is unfortunate for how it has divided Red Sox Nation into the Manny lovers vs. the Manny haters with a great deal of us stuck somewhere in the middle.

This does not mean that Manny does not have anyone who thinks he was treated unfairly, he does. Over at Joy of Sox they think Remy and Orsillo were spewing propaganda for Sox ownership when they discussed Manny the other night. Nomar also has Manny's back in today's LA Times, saying: "We never left. They traded us. We didn't leave."

Nomar Is Genetically Challenged

There is a new reason why Nomar is always hurt, which he is again if you haven't noticed, he says its due to genetics. The Dodgers were going to have Nomar move back to short until he got reinjured this week. From Scout.com:

"Dodgers infielder Nomar Garciaparra said a genetic predisposition, one he didn't know he had until it was identified by a Boston physical therapist with whom he voluntarily consulted last week, is the reason his left-calf strain has been so long in healing."
You can say what you want about Theo signing Lugo but he abosultely made the right move in shipping off Nomar. I'm sure roids had nothing to do with the bulking up followed by the breakdown of ligaments.
