Hot Stove Update

Here's the latest on a few free agents the Red Sox are looking at.

A.J. Burnett: He wants a 5 year deal, Boston is interested in signing him but only if they can't get Lowe.

Mark Teixeria: Several sources have the Red Sox seriously interested in Teixeria, their main competition will be the Angels but Teixeria wants to play on the East Coast and will decide where he is going by Christmas.

Derek Lowe: Another Boras client who wants crazy money. Barry Zito's contract numbers were thrown out there. Seeing how well Zito has done in SF, it may not be the best bargaining position to go with. The Red Sox are showing the most interest in bringing him back.

Hot Stove Update

Several sources have the Red Sox in discussions for A. J. Burnett. Newsday, Daily News. The Yankees also have interest in Burnett and are reportedly making a 4 year offer.

The Daily News also reports that the Red Sox are still interested in Lowe.

If the Red Sox land either Burnett or Lowe then they will have some room to trade Buchholz to the Rangers for a catcher.

Hot Stove Update

A few items of note this morning:

The Red Sox are looking at adding some starting pitching and have talked with Boras about D-Lowe and are talking with the Padres about Jake Peavy.

Add Miguel Montero to the list of possible options behind the plate for the Sox.

Red Sox Hot Stove Update

Jon Heyman at SI has a few updates on the Red Sox in his column. He believes Coco will be on the trading block, most likely for a catcher after the Sox sign Tek to a 2 year deal. He also thinks Lowell will stay because of teams being afraid to take him without knowing how he will respond to the hip surgery. Heyman thinks the Yanks will end up getting Sabathia.

The hot stove is very similar to last season for the Red Sox, just substitue Santana with Sabathia.
