Rob Bradford of WEEI is reporting that Sean Casey has retired and will be taking a position with MLB Network.
TBS is rolling out a new ad for their post-season coverage featuring Bon Jovi and Red Sox players Jonathan Papelbon and Sean Casey. Yahoo sports points out that the Yankees are also featured in the ad even though they will be nowhere near the post-season.
Sean Casey has gone on the 15-Day DL with a stiff neck...really, to the DL with a stiff neck?...next thing you know a player will get turf toe. The Red Sox called up Michael Bowden to the big club, he will make his MLB debut tomorrow against the White Sox.
Read more...MLB suspended Coco Crisp for 7 games, Jon Lester for 5 games, and Sean Casey for 3 games after yesterday's altercation with the Rays. It is ridiculous for Lester to get 5 games from hitting a batter with a slider. I'm sure the suspension will be appealed.

Alex Cora was activated and is in tonight's lineup, Jed Lowrie was sent to Pawtucket to make room. Casey has not been activated yet so Hansen is still with the team.
Sean Casey and Alex Cora have honored the tradition of feeding the team during their rehab assignments in Pawtucket. Cora bought food from Capriccio on Wednesday and Casey bought take out from Capital Grille yesterday. Both are progressing well and should be joining the Red Sox by the start of next week.
The Mayor got the offense going tonight while replacing Mike Lowell with 3 RBI's. The Sox all seemed to get in the offensive groove scoring 12 runs. J.D. Drew went 3-3 and is now batting .440, that is not a typo, he is really batting .440. Everyone had a hit but Ortiz(0-4 GIDP and 2 K's 2BB's) the slump continues, he is now batting .083.
Wakefield pitched well only giving up 1 earned run in 5 innings. He did pitch himself into a bases loaded jam with a hit batter and a couple of walks but got out of it. Wake had 5 K's on the night. Tavarez joined the "I want to blow the game" middle relief club for the Red Sox by giving up 3 earned runs in the 8th to put the game back in reach for the Tigers. Papelbon had to come in and get the last out of the inning. He struck out Cabrera in the 9th before he gave up a double to Guillen. He K'd Renteria, and gave up a single to Pudge before getting Thames to ground out to end the game.
Sox win 12-6 and series 2 games to 1.
Next up: Buchholz against the NY Yankees 7 pm.
Clay Buchholz will get his first start for Boston this year today against the Jays. He had a very difficult spring with an ERA of 10.03 This will most likely be his only start with the Red Sox for a while unless he can prove he is ready to be in the majors. He has been leaving pitches up in the strike zone and has not been able to put together a string of good innings this season. Buchholz did face the Jays last season going 4 2/3 innings giving up 5 hits and 2 runs (1 earned).
Sean Casey is scheduled to get his first start of the season at first base. Casey had the following to say about today's game: "It'll be good to get out there and get a start in, see a few pitches and get some consistent at-bats. I told Terry I'll be ready whenever he needs me."
The Red Sox will be facing Jesse Litsch who is 2-1 against Boston including a win against Buchholz last season. Ellsbury went 2-4 against Litsch last season and should get the start. J.D. Drew and Lowell each have hit a home run off of Litsch.
The Rogers Centre should have more Sox fans today and the annoying white towels should be gone. Game time 1:07 Eastern on NESN and WRKO. Lineups coming soon.
Sean Casey will miss the first two games of the season against Oakland with a stiff neck. He developed the problem on the 18 hour flight to Tokyo. Not a big problem for the Sox but it is always nice to have a good bat on the bench.
Read more...Dice-K is on the mound again today. His performance is not on par with his first start as he has given up 1 run and 2 hits including a double and triple as well as 2 walks in 3 innings. At the plate Jacoby and Sean Casey are still in search of their first hits of the spring. Manny has a double and scored a run when J.D. drove him in. Papelbon is expected to pitch later in the game.
Update: Papelbon retires them in order in the 4th....Jacoby 0-2...Casey gets his first hit of spring (its a double) SS Diaz drives in Drew...Sox lead 2-1... Tavarez takes the mound.
Update 2: Tavarez pitches well...Jacoby ends his day 0-3(still no hits this spring)....Casey goes 2-3.....Hansen has a better showing with 1 scoreless inning....off-season pickup Van Every gets an RBI...Sox lead 4-1
The Red Sox signed veteran first baseman Sean Casey to a one year $800,000 deal today. Casey is the left handed hitter and bench corner infielder the Sox have been looking for. This means Hinske will not be returning and Trot Nixon will not be coming back. Casey has often been called the nicest player in baseball so he should fit in well in the clubhouse and be well liked by fans. Casey hit .296 with 4 HR's and 54 RBI's in 143 games with Detroit last season.
