Buchholz Gets Pissy
Clay Buchholz is not happy with being in the minors and has talked to his agent about trying to get in the the majors with the Red Sox or another team. In the interview you don't hear much about Clay wanting to do what it takes to help the team; he clearly wants to pitch for any team and says he does't want to "waste bullets" in Pawtucket. Watch Below:
IMO the team gave him plenty of chances last season and does not owe him anything right now. I want him to be competitive and have a strong desire to succeed in the bigs but this talk of wanting to go elsewhere is crap. He needs to be a team player right now, and do what he is asked to do without whining about it.

This guy needs to realize that GM's talk. His comments of I want to be in the big leagues regardless of the team shows to much "I" and not enough "Team".
Clay has been a team player all season long. He has spent his time down in AAA and up until now, has not shared one complaint. He said he understood that he was designated after ST even though his numbers were better than anyone else on staff. He watched the team wait out countless starting pitchers struggles in the rotation. He has seen Dice-K hurried back to the lineup. He's seen Brad Penny in a spot that he might see as his. He's seen Smoltz signed and groomed to return...while he waits around to wonder when it is going to be his time. He's heard promises that he will pitch for the Sox this season and wonder when that is going to happen.
We all know I am a Clay fan. I can see and understand his frustrations. I think he does deserve a spot on the rotation...and it pitching some of the best baseball of his career so far. Clay has seen the rotation bend and flex to accommodate almost every single pitcher but Clay...has to be frustrating while he is pitching gang busters in AAA.
I was happy to see Tito supporting Clay and his comments today...saying he understand the sentiment and that his comments have been given more "negative" press than they should have.
I have no doubt Clay will come up and when he does, he is going to be something special to watch. Let's just hope and pray the Red Sox don't trade something like him away.
Part of being in the bigs in knowing how to deal with the press, his frustration is understandable but he had to know how his comments would go over in the Boston press. I have never been a huge Buchholz fan so I may be looking at this differently. I think he will be a good pitcher one day but I am not convinced he will ever be a front of the rotation type of guy. I hope he proves me wrong with the Red Sox.
