Oh, How Sweet It Is!

Hey NY! How does it feel now? Your umpteen bazillion dollar man that you 'stole' from the Sox just went 0-5, including the final out of the game! BWAAHAAHAA!!! I can't wait for the NY covers tomorrow!

The Sox have now won all 8 games played against the Yankees this year, besting the previous mark of 7 set back in 1912, a year coincidentally that the Sox won the World Series.

Brad Penny turned in 6 strong innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 BB while notching 5 K's. Unfortunately for him, Sabfathia was just a bit stronger. He had a 4 hitter going into the 8th inning. Joe Girardi pulled a GL and left him in there 1 pitch too many, though, as the Sox put up 3 more runs that inning. Those 3 runs and the Papi tater in the 2nd were just enough. Yes, Papi hit another HR, so he's not quite dead yet! This is why slump or no, David Ortiz is Big Papi!

Manny Delcarmen had a rare blown save, his 1st of this season, but Saito came in and did his job and got the win while setting up for Papelbon in the 9th who had a 1-2-3 inning notching his 16th save.

Oh this feels so good right now!

One day after Sabfathia made his less than auspicious debut, the Yankees sent their former ace, Chien-Ming Wang, to the mound to try and right the ship, but to no avail. Wang was hammered, allowing 9 H's, 7 ER's, 3 BB's, and 1 HR in only 3.2 innings, leaving him with an astronomical 17.18 ERA after 1 game.

The Yankees' rotation was supposed to be their strength in 2009, but Sabathia and Wang have looked more like Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy circa 2008. The two pitchers have combined to throw eight innings in the two losses, allowing 13 runs on 17 hits and eight walks without zero strikeouts.

The Winter Meetings are heating up with some big news:

C.C. Sabathia is headed to the Bronx in a massive 7 year deal worth around $170 million.

The Yankees are also close to signing Derek Lowe and are still interested in A.J. Burnett.

The Red Sox are still the front runners in the Teixeira sweepstakes.

Red Sox Put an Offer on the Table for C.C. Sabathia

Peter Gammons is reporting that the Red Sox have made an offer to C.C. Sabathia. Other teams are still in the mix but it is interesting that Theo has gone beyond discussions and has made an offer to Sabathia.

In other Winter Meeting news:

Pirates catcher Ronny Paolino is being discussed as a possible match for the Red Sox but they may have to compete with the Marlins to get him.

Ed Price of Fox Sports thinks the Giants might want Mike Lowell if the Sox get Teixeira but it looks like the Nats have the high bid right now.

Sabathia and Teixeira Most Wanted at Winter Meetings

Two free agent names keep getting discussed by multiple teams and everyone else seems to be waiting until one of them signs.

The Red Sox are most interested in Teixeira but they did meet with Sabathia yesterday. Boras floated the idea of a 10 year $200 million contract to get Teixeria which is most likely too steep for Boston. Right now the teams most interested in Teixeria are the Nats, Orioles, Angels, Red Sox, and Yankees to a lesser extent. New York, LAA, and Boston have the money but Washington and Baltimore have the hometown advantage.

The Yankees have the most interest in Sabathia but he wants to play on the West Coast, he may have even said he wants to be a Dodger. The Angels also like him and must decide if they want him over Tex, they can't afford both. Most believe that the Sox are talking to Sabathia to drive up the price.

Eric Ortiz at NESN.com believes that A.J. Burnett is also a name being thrown around by multiple teams including the Red Sox. Late last week it seemed the Braves had a done deal but it looks like that fell through.

A.J. Burnett - Rumor has it that he may be signing with the Braves over the weekend

C.C. Sabathia - Red Sox are meeting with him this weekend. He would love to play on the West Coast and the Giants would like him but they are a little gun shy after the Zito deal.

Mark Teixeira - Red Sox still like him but are not going to throw everything at him, if he is going to Boston it will most likely take place after the Winter Meetings when his price goes down.

Has Manny Just Left the Best Offer on the Table?

Manny Ramirez did everything he had to do with the Dodgers this season. Teams know that he can make a big instant impact but will they be willing to spend for it? The Dodgers have withdrawn their offer to Manny, a 2 year $45 million deal with a $15 million option for a third year. With the current state of the economy will teams throw more money than that after an aging slugger? The Yankees showed they can still burn money with their offer to Sabathia today, but can any other team go that big? Boras may have overplayed his hand on this one but he did get the Dodgers to agree to a two year $36.2 million deal for Andruw Jones, so anything is possible.

Northern California Gets More Hardware

The 2007 baseball awards continued today with another player from Northern California winning. Rollins (NL MVP), Sabathia (AL Cy Young), Melvin (NL Manager of the Year) and Boston Red Sox Dustin Pedroia (AL Rookie of the Year) are all from Northern California. Congrats to the winners. Tribe wins game 8 - Sabathia takes Cy Young

Red Sox ace Josh Beckett lost out to Indians starter C.C. Sabathia for the 2007 Cy Young Award. Beckett and Sabathia had similar numbers during the regular season but the Tribe's pitcher received more votes from baseball writers. Josh Beckett did prove he was the better pitcher in the post-season.

Will the Parade Keep Rolling?

Josh Beckett could win the Cy Young today. He was by far the best pitcher for the Red Sox this year but his numbers are a little behind C.C. Sabathia. Beckett went 20-7 with a .327 ERA. and 194 K's. CC. had 209 K's with just 37 BB's, he went 19-7 with a .321 ERA. Beckett also led the AL in run support where C.C. won more close games. Beckett proved he was a better pitcher in the post-season but the votes were in before those games. Let's hope Boston's magical year continues today with more good news.
