Mike Lowell has been placed on the 15 day DL with an oblique strain. David Pauley has been called up from Pawtucket, he will most likely take Wakefield's spot in the rotation meaning that Buchholz is out.

What Now For Sox Rotation?

With Colon out, Dice-K looking like he needs more rehab time, Schilling done for the season, and Buchholz struggling, what do the Red Sox do in the rotation? One thing is for sure, Justin Masterson is not going anywhere until some of the injuries get sorted out. But if Dice-K and Colon miss a few starts the Sox may need to call up another starter and that will most likely be David Pauley. He won his 9th game for the PawSox tonight and now has an ERA of 3.78.

Tuesday's Starter

After yesterday's great effort, Bartolo Colon seemed likely to get the call to make his regular season debut for the Red Sox, but his pitch count is still below 70. Colon will make one more start with the PawSox before joining the big club in Boston. This leaves the Red Sox with a choice to make for Tuesday's game against KC. Masterson has been struggling lately so the Sox may call up David Pauley once again or give Charlie Zink his MLB debut. Zink is a knuckleballer who has been taught by Wakefield and has a 2.91 ERA this season. Can you imagine 2 knuckleballers in the same rotation? Can Sox fans survive this?

Beckett Scratched....Pauley to Start

Josh Beckett will not start tonight's game due to a stiff neck, David Pauley will get the start. Pauley was on notice when Beckett had the flu but he did not know about the start until 4 pm.

David Pauley Is In The Mix For The Rotation

Add David Pauley to the list of pitchers competing for the #5 spot in the rotation. Last season Pauley led the Paw Sox in starts and went 6-6 with 110 K's. Pauley will have an uphill battle to earn the spot because he will have to beat out Tavares, Snyder, Masterson, and Buchholz. Here is what Soxprospects.com has to say about David Pauley.
"Pauley mixes an excellent sinker with a low 90s fastball with good movement, a good changeup, and a top-notch curveball. Has 4th or 5th starter potential. Has been very consistent in recent seasons, with some flashes of brilliance. Seems to fade out late in August and September. Needs to improve his control somewhat. Gives up a lot of home runs. Good fielder with a strong pick-off move. "
