Brad Penny Is Gone

The Boston Red Sox have released Brad Penny. He asked the team to release him so he could play for another team and the Red Sox granted him the request.

It is a real shame that the team did not trade him when he had some market value as many people were calling for. By holding on to Penny the Red Sox were rewarded with several more losses when and more wear and tear on the bullpen.

We all know I like Brad Penny. And given that our rosters were about to expand in a few days, I think it's a shame he is gone.

I think Brad is a really talented guy...he just didn't happen to show us that talent near enough. I would still love his arm in the mix as we are heading towards the post season.

I gotta wonder if he is going some place else...and where. I have to imagine NL.

Best wishes to you Brad. I'll miss seeing you dress like Will Ferrell from Elf and standing on our mound.

P.S. Brad. If you go to another team and pitch lights out *coughs* Smoltz *coughs* I'll have to hate you. Just know this.

Penny has a good fastball that he can locate for strikes. Unfortunately he was not able to develop a second out pitch so hitters were just sitting on his fastball and getting a ton of hits. I think if he were to improve an off speed pitch he would be successful but the Red Sox can wait around for him to make that adjustment in the middle of a pennant chase.

He did what the team asked of him and he was respected by players. I think both sides will benefit by the news today.
