Did Scott Boras Screw Up?
Is Scott Boras going to lose some money for his client with his tactics? It is possible that the Red Sox had the best offer for Mark Teixeira and Boras went back to them to get more claiming he had higher offers. The Red Sox had a higher offer than the Angels according to the L.A. Times:
The Red Sox were believed to have offered Teixeira an eight-year deal in the $175-million range, and a source who is familiar with negotiations but is not authorized to speak about them on the record said it was "significantly" better than the Angels' offer.
It is also possible that the Orioles upped their deal or that the Nats threw some more crazy money on the table. Either way I am just glad Red Sox brass walked away from the deal, it may help bring some sanity into baseball salaries.

Don't cound the Sox out yet!
I just wrote over at The Bottom Line that I think this is all just Hard Ball 101.
As you mentioned, the Angels did not have a confirmed $200M offer on the table... and I still think the Sox have the best "real" offer out there at $23M per year.
Boras will now use that number to try and raise the price on the Angels, Nats, Yankees, etc... but I don't think any of those teams have the balls or desire to pay $25M or go to 10 years...
Give it a day or two and I bet you hear that the Sox offer is still the best one Boras has.
I bet he ends up on the Nats...he gets to play near his home and make a pile of dough with nobody watching.
Glad they walked away from the deal... the only thing the sox have done to make themselves better is.. nothing they dont have a major league ready catcher and they have a hole in the line up.. they have gone from the first place team to the third place team in AL east and will probably miss the playoffs.. sorry I'm just very upset with the sox right now... they have sat by in the corner and watched the stankees get better while all they have done is release gross new uniforms.. hanging sox is a great logo for the team cause they have certainly hung themselves this offseason.
The Sox should make a deal for Peavy and wait on Lars Anderson. They were one game away from the W.S. last year with injuries to Ortiz and Drew and without Lowell. The Yankees added on good pitcher who is due to break down and they overpaid greatly for a 12 game winner.
I bet Theo plays a good game of poker.
