A Yankee Loss In Their Final Game at the Stadium Puts Red Sox in Playoffs

If the Red Sox hold on to win the game today we can be doubly rewarded if Baltimore can beat the Yanks. The Yankees will close the history of their stadium on a low note and to rub some salt in the wound it would guarantee the Red Sox a spot in the post season. We also have to root for Kevin Millar to get the last homer in Yankee Stadium history. Nothing could be finer.

Kevin Millar Wants To Hit the Last Home Run at Yankee Stadium

Red Sox fans may get another thing to tease Yankee fans about if Kevin Millar gets his way. The Orioles will play against the Yankees in the final game at Yankee Stadium in a few weeks. Millar told the NY Daily News the following:

Personally, it's been one of, if not the funnest place to go play," says Kevin Millar, the Baltimore first baseman who played a key role in that most painful of Bronx memories, the 2004 ALCS. "You're always hated when you wear a Red Sox uniform, and being an Oriole the last three years, you're still hated because you did wear a Red Sox uniform....It would be nice to be the last home run, to go down in history that way," Millar says. "I'm sure there's a guy who hit the first one, and it would sure be nice to hit the last one." Told that the guy who hit the first one was the Babe himself, Millar says, "So, Ruth and Millar. That sounds normal."
It may seem a little too greedy, but it would make for a fun off-season if the Yankees lost in their last game in Yankee Stadium and Millar hit the final home run.

Kevin Millar Helps Sox Win In Extra Innings

With the score deadlocked at 2 and a runner on second in the bottom of the 12th, Kevin Millar hit a grounder to Lugo. Julio bobbled the ball but was able to still throw out Millar because he was not running hard on the play. If Millar had hustled there would have been a runner at third with 1 out. After an intentional walk, the next batter hit a long fly ball for the third out, the hit would have been more than deep enough for the game winning sac fly had there been only 1 out. Lugo was saved from an error that would have cost the Sox the game and had the message boards humming with some ugly words about the shortstop. The Sox were able to take the lead in the top of the 13th when Manny reached on an error and advanced to second on the bad throw. Lowell drove him in with a single. A few more base hits gave the Sox a 3 run lead and it was all Papelbon in the bottom of the inning to pick up the save. This might have been just the thing that was needed to get the Sox out of the funk. Millar still knows how to get Boston to Cowboy Up!
