Red Sox Pitchers For Games 1-3 of ALDS

Game 1: Jon Lester

Game 2: Dice-K

Game 3: Josh Beckett

Beckett has a right oblique injury from a side session on Friday. His game 3 start is not a sure thing, he will try a side session on Thursday to see if he can go for game 3. Francona has not said if Wake or Byrd would replace him as needed.

In a short series you need 3 good starters and without Beckett the Red Sox could have a much harder time. The injury also forces Tito to pitch Lester on the road when he would have pitched at Fenway where he has been fantastic this season.

Aside from what you already mention, (presuming Beckett can pitch strong in game 3), the only real impact is that Beckett will only be available to pitch in one game in the series.

Beckett has done very poorly against the Angels this year, so that may not be a bad thing.

But, it still feels terrible to have your ace in a tentative situation.

Now, IF the Sox win the first two games, I wonder if Tito would start Wake (or Byrd) in game 3 and try to give Beckett a little more time?

We may never know; I don't really expect to take the first two.

Redsox.com said it would be Wake.

Lowell, Drew and Beckett all hurting as we head into the post season... and that's on top of our bullpen woes.

It will be a small miracle if we get to the ALCS.

You are a heretic, aren't you! Don't forget this is a Red Sox team that still won 95 games despite all those injuries. Don't forget what happened the last time the Sox lost 19-8 to the Yankees!
Sox in 5. Playoff history v. Halo's says so.

It's also the same Halo's who cleaned our clock this year in the season series (1-8) and won 100 games. Their starting pitching matches ours and they have a better bullpen. They also have homefield advantage.

I'll be hoping for the best but expecting the worst in this ALDS.
