Red Sox Hang On to End the Skid
Brad Penny did well in his Red Sox debut but it was the long ball that won the game for Boston today. Penny went 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits including two home runs to Mike Napoli. The Red Sox offense was fueled by the bat of Jason Bay who hit 2 home runs and drove in 3. Baldelli and Tek both had 2-hit games. Ramon Ramirez was great in relief; he only allowed 1 hit in 1 2/3 innings. Papelbon brought about a major increase in stress levels of Red Sox Nation with his performance in the 9th. He gave up a homer to Hunter and then a base hit and two walks to load the bases. With nowhere to put 'em, Paps struggled with Hendrick who fouled off 8 pitches in a row before hitting a liner to right that Baldelli had trouble snagging, but made the catch anyway.
The Good: Bay, Ramirez, Baldelli, and Tek all had good games
The Bad: Papelbon (got the save but it wasn't pretty)
The Ugly: Jed Lowrie has entrenched himself in this spot.. another 0-fer, now batting .056
