Behind the Dish

Varitek's offensive turnaround this year has taken the pressure off of Theo to go out and trade for a quick fix behind the plate. If Tek's numbers hold the Red Sox will pick up his option for 2010 giving more time for minor league catchers Mark Wagnor and Luis Exposito to develop. Wagner has turned it around this year in Portland and is hitting .302 with a .970 OPS. He already has the defensive skills so if the bat comes around the catcher of the future may be in the Sox farm system. NESN interviewed Exposito this week:
