Welcome Back Alex Gonzalez

Alex Gonzalez is once again a member of the Boston Red Sox. A waiver trade was made with the Cincinnati Reds to send Gonzalez to Boston. Gonzalez will be a defensive improvement at short but won't add much to the offense. The Reds received Kris Negron from the Red Sox.

This guy is a vacuum cleaner at short. He is the best shortstop to wear the Boston uniform since Nomar in the early days. I have not checked out his recent offensive stats, but I suspect a low batting average will likely be the trade off. Nevertheless, the Sox now have enough pinch hitting talent to overcome that weakness. This is a good move.

Should've kept O-Cab, should've kept A-Gon. Instead, in both cases we went out and overpaid for Rent-a-wreck and Loogie. I really hope our next long term move at shortstop is smarter.

And yes, A-Gons batting average this year is even worse than Papi's and without all the homeruns, but it'll be worth it to at least have solid defense for the rest of the year.
