Red Sox Fail to Overtake the Rays Again

For whatever reason the Red Sox cannot move past the Rays into first place. Beckett looked like the pitcher of '07 going into the 7th before he gave up his first run. He only gave up 3 hits on the night. The Rays pitching staff gave the Sox offense all kinds of trouble tonight; Boston could only manage 5 hits and 1 run. The game went into extra frames and Masterson gave up a walk-off single to end the game in the bottom of the 9th.

Sox Lose 2-1 BOX SCORE

Am I the only one who had absolutely no confidence we'd get to the 10th inning? We needed to score more than 1 run before going to the bottom of the 9th last night and didn't get it done. A gem by Beckett wasted...

"The Trop" has got to be the most redneck, silly, ugly, disgusting, contemptible place to play baseball in the major leagues. The hideous roof, the artifical field, the few Rays "fans" who actually show up regularly in their fake gold chains, bathrobe and bunny slippers. The corporate orange juice theme is just the sprinkles on the shit sundae.

It makes me physically ill that we've only won 1 game there all season. We need to win this final game purely for the sake of pride, then knock the Rays out of the playoffs if the Angels or White Sox don't do it first. We need to go on a tear during the last 2 series and take the division so these Florida hayseeds are not allowed to celebrate ANYTHING!

I think right now I hate the Rays even more than the Yankees, if only because the Yankees were such a joke this year that it's difficult to summon up the usual venom to spit in their faces.

I mean, now that the Curse of A-Fraud is going strong (they have at least 9 more years of it to look forward to) and the Bankees are moving to their new faceless, corporation-worshipping behemoth with NO HISTORY it just seems like the Rays and their toilet bowl of a stadium have become our new competition for the immediate future. That being the case, we need to refocus our malice accordingly.

Phew, check that blood pressure!

Tough game - well pitched on both sides, and teams always struggle to score runs the day after a blowout. Hate to waste a gem from Becket though.

Those Rays are slippery! Need a win tonight to keep the pressure on!

I too am finding more reasons to dislike the Rays every day, starting with the silly mohawks. Tonight's game is really important, if the Sox win I see them winning the division. It would be nice to win a series at the Trop to have confidence going back there in the playoffs if they do meet.

You may hate Tampa, but guess what?? They are still in 1st place!!! Even if you win tonight, you'll still be in second place. No wonder why Hammy left, he wanted to be on a winning team. Its a shame Cleveland didn't push you out of the playoffs last year. I hate the redsux, go TAMPA 2008 & INDIANS 2009!!!

It doesn't matter who's in first place after tonight, it matters who's in first place on September 29th. I think it will be the Red Sox.

Awwww, a Chokeland Indians fan, still bitter from last year... Is the therapy helping at all Bill?
