Wake "Shocked" by Mirabelli's Departure

Wakefield told the Associated Press he was "shocked" when he heard about Mirabelli's release. He did not know that Mirabelli was in danger of being cut by the Sox.

The Red Sox decided to go with Kevin Cash, who they feel can handle the knuckleball. Cash caught four games pitched by Wakefield last season.
