Red Sox Staff Stinks Up the Joint

How bad an outing was it for the Red Sox pitching staff? So bad that Alex Cora had to warm up in the bullpen, that's right, Alex Cora the middle infielder who has not pitched to a batter in his major league career. But hey, he couldn't throw worse than some of the Red Sox pitchers tonight. Buchholz was bad, (see earlier post) Aardsma was bad, Lopez was bad, and Timlin was bad. Combined they walked 8 batters, gave up 9 hits and 11 runs in 6 innings of work. Okajima came in and pitched well for two innings but there was zero pressure on him. The worst part of this loss was that the Sox jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Buchholz needs to be removed for the rotation, Beckett and Wake need to get healthy and the Sox starters need to keep the team in the game if they want to catch the Rays.

Sox Lose 11-6 BOX SCORE

UPDATE: After the game Buchhoz was demoted to Portland....not even Pawtucket.

Funny seeing Cora warm up! You can really tell if someone isn't a pitcher... his motion just doesn't look right.

I think they should've sent Clay to the pen for the rest of the year (I said this 2 starts ago). He's not ready to be a regular starter, but he tends to have a solid inning or two before imploding. He can't do much worse than the rest of the pen, that's for sure. He could've helped us that way down the stretch and worked on his long game over the winter/next year.

Sending him down to AA makes little sense right now, especially with the shape our pitching is in...
