2008 Election

I know this is a Red Sox site and people sometimes don't want to be bothered by politics but I hope you will take the time to vote for Obama on Nov. 4. I respect that there are Republican Red Sox fans out there and some of them thankfully visit this site. I met John McCain in 2006 and he was a very nice guy but I just disagree with him on the future of our country on several issues. The election will not be close in California but it will be in other states so please make your vote count wherever you are. You have the power to put the country in a new direction so please do your part and vote for Obama.

Hey although I respect you for everything you do for RSN, I don't know where you get you information on Politics. I am a sixteen year old girl who hasn't missed a Red Sox game in 3 seasons and I haven't missed any information on either of the candidates. I have done more research on each presidential hopeful and from what I have learned from bipartisan web sites(not CNN, MSNBC, FOX News). Our economy will be killed with Obama's plan. Mr. Forbes has announced that our economy as bad off as it will be with either McCain or Obama, Obama hasn't thought things through on a national level and we will head to a deeper economic issue than this country realizes. Obama has a very heroic idea to provide healthcare for every American, but at 12,000 a year per family, there is NO way we can afford that. I once was for Obama also, but my mind changed in June.

I really and truly hope you change your mind. Obama looks great and sounds great but what is behind his words? McCain has proven that he can follow through on things and has a better record of bipartisan than Obama does in his short, short career as a U.S. Senator. If you don't change your mind from what I have said already. I just spoke with my Dad who is Vice President and COO of a major development company (that only has about 60 employees, so its not a large company) in my state. The owners of his company are Democrats and they just told their employees that if Obama gets elected they are laying off over half of their workers and urged them to vote McCain Palin on November 4, 2008. Isn't it better to have jobs for people, where they can make their own money, than to rely on people who happen to make more? Just a question but in my opinion more jobs are better than hand outs.... Hands up ARE better than Hand outs! Thank you for your time.

To answer your question about where I get my information of politics:

I have a BA in history with a minor in political science. I have been a teacher of U.S. History, American Government, and economics for 11 years. I have lived overseas in the Middle East for 6 years of my life and I have traveled to every state in the country and over 20 countries.

McCain did have a track record of reaching across the aisle before he began his presidential campaign but he has made a hard turn to the right and has embraced policies that are not bipartisan at all. He has gone from someone who would protect our environment to someone who wants to drill for oil and gas across the West.

I hope that you never find yourself unemployed because of bad economic policies from the Bush administration because if McCain wins you will have very limited benefits.

I am glad a 16 year old is interested in politics and a Sox fan. Thanks for the comment.

Hey West, don't you think that McCain had to swing more to the right to get those votes based on the way the polls were coming out. Had he lost any of that support, he was dead in the water. I would think that if he were elected, he would be able to return to his more bipartisan ways.......

The real issue is how can you vote for a flip-flopper like Obama? Backs both the Rays AND the Phillies?

"Our economy will be killed with Obama's plan."

You can't kill something that's already dead.

Anyone who isn't voting for Obama is either brainwashed or functionally retarded. I almost want McCain to win at this point so I can watch him and Karibou Barbie finish what the Reagan administration started 27 years ago and put this pitiful, failing empire out of its misery.

Ok well I appreciate all of your degrees and knowledge of the world situation. When said all that I said before I don't think I mentioned that my stepfather was the Mayor of my states capital city for eight years, has been asked to run for governor, was Deputy of State and taught Politics at the University. And as for you saying that McCain WAS bipartisan before the campaign I would like to point out that neither Candidate has been very bipartisan through the last two years.

I am more involved in politics than any teenager that I know. I have been a honorary page in the States Senate spending an entire day (8-5) with my district's senator who happens to be Democrat, so party mean nothing to me. That same senator is up for re-election this year and has asked me to stand with her, if she win, as she gets sworn in.

I believe that you and I have more in common than it sounds.. I have wanted to be a teacher since the third grade and with that major I plan to minor in Political Science, I am also considering a Media Broadcast major with a minor in Sports Management. I am a sixteen-year-old FEMALE and would once again like to express my love for this site. Even with our difference in views I still appreciate this page.

Republicans won't give you a hand up. They're too busy holding onto their money to give a shit about the tired, poor, downtrodden and weary.

I would say your dad is not doing a very good job of running his company if he has to dump 1/2 of his employees. For one thing, he should not be telling his employees how to vote. Secondly, if the economy is already this far in the toilet, why hasn't he laid off those employees already? My guess is that he was waiting for yesterday so he could spew right wing nut rhetoric about how it's all Obama's fault.

Ok first off my step dad is an Independent and he tends to lean toward the Democrats. Second of all it's not him who feels the need to lay off the employees the company is actually doing better than most right now, its the owners who want the layoffs due to economy. Third he wasn't the one urging the employees to vote for McCain it was the owners (again...Democrats). And last but not least, as I said already HE IS NOT A REPUBLICAN so that right wing bull crap was never going to be said. He is one person who actually respected the democratic procedure and accepted immediately that his candidate didn't win. So he wasn’t one who is going to blame Obama already, hes actually going to give him a chance, don't get me wrong he doesn't have high expectations of him but hes not going to lay blame on someone without a chance (Its still Bush's administration)

Once again I love this site and check it daily... I'm going to try not to post anymore on this post, so hopefully others understand that my beliefs are certainly different than most but My stepdad is a great, kind, smart man who in the long run is going to do all he can to protect ALL of his emloyees.

Oh and in case you missed it Curt Schilling endorsed McCain. :)
