What The Sox Really Need

Despite all of the trade talk about Manny what the team needs right now is pitching. There is not a trade that is going to make the Sox better without Manny, unless he tanks the rest of the season. His lack of hustle yesterday down the line was pretty weak but not exactly a sign that he was tanking, especially since he hit well the two previous nights. He will continue to produce for this season. Theo knows what is good for the Sox and he is looking for help in the pen. By the deadline the Sox will have acquired one of the following players: Ron Mahay from KC, Huston Street from Oakland, or Will Ohman of the Braves. If they don't go out and get some help for the pen I don't see this team repeating as champs.

When is Aardsma due back?

Matt July 30, 2008 at 9:10 AM

from mlb.com
Right-hander David Aardsma, who is currently recovering from a right groin strain on the 15-day disabled list, threw a side session on Tuesday at approximately 85-90 percent

"It's absolutely a step forward," Aardsma said. "It's a matter of getting over that hurdle, and it's mental now. I can push it, and I can put more on it. It's a matter of letting it go and saying, 'You know, I can do this, and it's not going to hurt me.' "

It was Aardsma's first time throwing off the mound during this stint on the DL, and Francona said his status is "pretty good," but not ready to get into a game.

I sincerely believe that Manny being traded is NOT the trade I think Theo will make. It will be impossible to replace his bat this far into the season. While Manny may not be 100% there (far from it, actually), I also highly doubt that he will 'tank' the rest of the year. More thoughts on Manny in the next day or so.
