Rays Beat Up on Lester and Co.

Longoria hit a two run homer in the first but then settled down for the until the 5th. Then the Rays loaded the bases on two hits and a bunt that beat out the throw to first before Longoria hit a ball to the wall. Lugo had two plays in the inning that the fans thought could have gone better getting him a good helping of boos from the Fenway faithful. After the 7th run of the game crossed the plate Lester was done and it was time for the bullpen to continue to throw BP to the Rays. Jones gave up 4 earned runs, Saito gave up 1 and Lopez gave up another. Lopez's 1 earned run in 2 innings pitched actually improved his ERA.

The Red Sox could not get the big hit in the game. Varitek grounded out to third with the bases loaded in bottom of the 5th. Lugo had a home run in the bottom of the 5th, he now had 1 more than Big Papi as I warned might happen. Now what?

The game illuminated some big problems for the Red Sox; Lester is now 2-3 with an ERA north of 6, Big Papi can't hit it out of a softball field, Hunter Jones and Javi Lopez are not looking like they can cut it in the bigs. Lugo's "D" was bad but don't pin this game on him, if he made both plays perfectly the Red Sox still would have lost big.

Red Sox Lose 14-5 BOX SCORE

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Rays 2 0 0 0 6 5 1 0 0 14 17 2
Red Sox 0 1 0 0 2 2 0 0 0 5 10 1

If Lugo didn't botch the DP, it would've been 2 outs and 0 men on, instead of 0 outs and 2 men on.

Grrrrr.......
