Smoltz, Buchholz and Van Every

John Smoltz pitched 4 innings in his last rehab start with the PawSox tonight giving up 3 hits and a run on a homer. Buchholz came in after Smoltz excited and pitched 4 innings of his own giving up 2 runs and earning the win. The outing had to be frustrating for Buchholz knowing that Smoltz is on his way to joining the Red Sox while he remains with the PawSox indefinetly.

PawSox outfielder and Red Sox fill-in/pitcher Jonathan Van Every will undergo knee surgery and will be out at least 5 weeks. With Kotsay and Baldelli healthy it was unlikely that he would have been called up in that time but he did quickly become well liked by the fans in Boston.
