Byrd Delivers, Offense Doesn't

The Red Sox acquired Paul Byrd to give them outings like he did tonight: 7 1/3 innings, 4 runs, no walks. His goal was to keep the Sox in the game and put them in a position to win with some big hits. The only problem with that was Boston was not facing the Texas Ranger pitching staff. The Jay's Roy Halladay thoroughly dominated the Red Sox offense tonight, going the distance and allowing just 1 run on a home run by Dustin Pedroia in the bottom of the 9th. The Sox did manage 7 hits but could not get a rally going and Jacoby Ellsbury was once again ineffective in the lead-off spot.

When Halladay is on his game, he's tough to stop. And what a workhorse. He seems to be pitching into the 9th inning every time we face him.
