Halladay, Martinez, Both?

The Red Sox are continuing to kick the tires on Martinez and Hallady. The have the depth to trade for either and potentially both players if they are willing to give up some of their top prospects along with Clay Buchholz. With the recent struggles of Smoltz and the offense, the Red Sox have more pressure to make an upgrade. The Red Sox are watching as other teams balk at the price for Halladay and may step in at the last minute and gobble him up. It is looking like Theo is going to pull the trigger on a big deal before the deadline that could shake up the roster in Boston and in Pawtucket.

I like the idea of Martinez, since Varitek is declining and Kottaras is not doing as great of job as I think he could. However to trade for Halladay is a not the best idea. He's what 32? and one to trade him to another AL East team is rather sad (though I guess Jays are really looking for some money which the Yanks and Red Sox could provide). But two to helping us? I think it would be best to keep with Clay Buchholz especially considering against the Rays Halladay isn't that great. What we need is a great bat and another catcher since Varitek may not come back.

We can't keep all those top notch AAA pitchers at that level forever. There are more below them, or will be (Theo has developed a great farm system) to replace Buchholz or Bowden, who was a real treat to be able to speak with, btw. They all can't pitch for Boston, so as much as we like watching the progress of CB and MB, we have to prepare ourselves for the possible departure.
