John Smoltz Gets Rocked Again

Is is time for the Red Sox to cut their losses on John Smoltz? The gamble turned out bad again today when he gave up 6 earned runs on 9 hits and a walk in 5 innings, taking his 4th loss as a member of the Red Sox and earning him some boos from the Fenway crowd. The 6 run deficit was too big of a hole for the Red Sox offense to climb out of. The Sox scored 2 runs on 6 hits (Ells and LaRoche each went 2-4).

I'm SO over the John Smoltz experiment. He is a HOF pitcher, no doubt...but that doesn't mean he has it right now.

Of course it doesn't help that the bats once again went cold...but with giving up 6 runs, I don't think the lack of run support can be blamed as the cause of the loss.

This is what I want our 5 man rotation to be: Les, Wake, Becks, Buch and Penny. And then maybe give Dice-K a second glance if he continues to progress well in his "rehab" starts.

Beckett better bring us a W tomorrow...STAT.

I'm with you on being done with Smoltz...I'd like a Rotation of Beckett, Lester, Holladay, Wake, and Dice/Buchholz but that is wishful thinking. It was nice to see Penny pitch better last outing. Beckett should bring the goods tomorrow.
